Volunteer Teams - Safe Communities
Mission Statement
To make Alberta’s International Region a safe place to live, learn, work and play by creating a region-wide culture of safety and commitment to injury prevention.
Goal
To deliver long-term safety programs in a way that addresses the needs of the region for the purpose of creating safety in the community and a long-term commitment to prevention programs.
Background
The Safe Communities Foundation in Ontario began a year after Paul Kells lost his son in an industrial explosion on the third day of his part-time job. It is a strong belief of the foundation that all injuries are preventable and predictable.
A Safe Communities Coalition was started in Alberta’s International Region in 2000 to develop, coordinate and deliver long term injury prevention programs.
The Safe Communities Coalition consists of community members in the International Region who are dedicated to safety. They meet once a month to brainstorm ideas and discuss different tools and tactics that, when implemented, will help increase safety in the Region.
Do you want to find out more about the Safe Communities initiative? Visit the Safe Communities Foundation website at www.safecommunities.ca. If you have a safety initiative that should be known about, or if you want to become a sponsor or volunteer, please call the EDA Office at 780-986-9538.
Injuries are real problems and we are working to promote real solutions!
