Alberta's International Region - The Gateway to Opportunity!
Located in the heart of Alberta, Alberta’s International Region has a strong, diverse economy. Anchored by five key sectors, energy, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, environment and transportation, the region is well poised for long-term growth and prosperity.
A vital transportation hub, the International Region also boasts an expanding commercial centre, attracting business and investment through an open-for-business attitude. Combined with a growing residential community, with active, involved citizens, Alberta’s International Region is the place to be in Canada.
The region also benefits from Alberta’s low tax system, with no provincial sales tax, general capital tax, payroll tax and no machinery and equipment tax.
Alberta’s International Region experienced 18% growth on new businesses over the past five years and attracted billions in research and development dollars. The growth rates for the Alberta’s International Region and the Province of Alberta are among the highest on North America. The population growth rate is particularly bright with 37% between 2001 and 2006 or an average of 5.2% growth per year.
Business start-up and operating costs are extremely low. Canada ranks first among G7 nations, maintaining a 5.5% cost advantage over the U.S., with Alberta’s International Region among the most competitive in the world.
