The EDA's economic objectives are based on achieving its economic development vision to create "an integrated regional business community that is strong, diversified, sustainable and responsive to growth opportunities". To maintain Alberta's International Region as an excellent place to live and do business the EDA is:
- Supporting the development needs of local business community;
- Providing timely, accurate information on the regional economy;
- Marketing the region's products, services and technologies; and
- Facilitating networks, partnerships and opportunities.
It is the EDA's mandate to encourage the sustainable development of economic wealth within Alberta's International Region. This now 25 year old partnership, formed by the City of Leduc and Leduc County, exists to:
- Maintain and enhance the region as a good place in which to live and do business;
- Promote the development of a strong, diversified and sustainable base;
- Create an international region through appropriate commercial and industrial growth;
- Influence improvements to infrastructure, education and health systems;
- Serve as steward for smart growth and protecting the environment by managing development of valuable farmlands; and
- Achieve a good balance on Quality of Life improvements, including safety and security.
The EDA's "open-door" policy allows investors and existing businesses to walk in without appointments to raise concerns, place questions, gather information, searching for statistics for any economic development related issues in any of the partner communities. The EDA is connected with the communities through a Community Leaders Team, and works with a group of local realtors to stay up to date on investment opportunities within the region. The EDA's website supports the 24/7 availability around the globe at www.internationalregion.com.
