Workforce and Employer Learning
A major focus of the Living, Working, Learning portion of this website is dedicated to providing employers who wish to improve their employee recruitment and retention practices with information. This is important to employers to two reasons: not only is it important to attract and hire highly-skilled workers, but it is as important to retain those workers.
Retention and Recruitment go hand in hand, as retention of the best employees often starts with recruitment and staffing strategies. Finding individuals that fit well into a particular corporate "culture" is a first step. Ensuring they have well-defined, achievable goals is also critical to keeping employees happy and productive. Involving employees as much as possible in policy-making decisions helps employees realize their importance to the company. Encouraging and paying staff to continue increasing their knowledge and skills in the form of educational classes demonstrates a willingness to invest in their personal and professional growth.
"A recent Gallup survey of 55,000 employees matched the following attitudes directly to higher profits:
- Employees felt they had an opportunity every day to do what they do best They believed their opinion counted
- They sensed that their co-workers were committed to quality
- There was a direct connection of their work to the company's mission statement."
