Advanced Manufacturing

The Advanced Manufacturing sector is an extremely important part of Alberta's International Region.  The companies included in this sector are involved in a wide range of manufacturing operations, from heavy machinery and oil rig equipment to custom made rubber solutions and homebuilding.  Manufacturers use mechanical, physical or chemical methods to transform materials, substances or components into new products. The "raw materials" transformed may include natural, mined, quarried, extracted, refined, and other manufactured products. The new products may include semi-finished as well as finished products, and products made under contract by another establishment.  In addition, these companies develop and construct buildings, construct heavy engineering and industrial facilities, and provide specialized work for building and heavy construction projects.

Labour Opportunities

Currently, there are a wide variety of employment opportunities in the Advanced Manufacturing sector within Alberta's International Region.  Machinists of all skill levels are in heavy demand, particularly those with Journeyman level experience and extensive programming skills.  Also in demand are pressline operators; individuals who are able to safely and skillfully operate several machines in an assembly-style operation for a great many businesses.

Tradespeople of all skill levels will find an over-abundance of work, thanks largely to the billions being invested in new projects in the province.  Plumbing, heating, electrical, tool and die, and molding are all valuable skills that will help bring gainful employment and future prospects.
