Transportation - Road

Boasting a strategic position along the Queen Elizabeth II Corridor, one of the fastest growing corridors of economic wealth generation in North America, brings a multitude of opportunities for involvement in economic spin-offs and service growth.

The region has direct access to:

    • the Trans Canada Highway, linking all of Canada

    • the Alberta portion of the Canamex Trade Corridor (Queen Elizabeth II) which links Canada, the United States, and Mexico, stretching 6,000 km from Alaska to Mexico. The goals of this corridor are to:

      • Improve access for the north-south flow of goods, people and information.

      • Increase transport productivity and reduce transport costs.

      • Promote a seamless and efficient intermodal transport system.

      • Reduce administration and enforcement costs through harmonized regulations. (Alberta Government Infrastructure and Transportation)

      • Provide access to Highway 63, linking this region to Fort McMurray, one of Canada’s major hubs of oil production, located near Athabasca Tar Sands and home to Syncrude and Suncor.

Recognizing the importance of seamless transportation access in the province, the Government of Alberta is spending $2 billion over the next three years to improve provincial highways and their accessibility.
